Seeing comes before words.
John Berger, Ways of Seeing, 1972
I begin a work not with a question but with a restlessness. A feeling or a discomfort about being human sets me off; the symbols find their place along the way, there is no scheme drawn up in advance.
Some of my works come from inside: Ensemde Pişenler and Gündüz Düşü. Some come from researching a subject outside me: for Tek Ayak Üzerinde I studied the flamingos and the destruction in the Gediz Delta. I come from the moving image; cinema taught me editing, rhythm and duration. I see a still image not as a frozen instant but as a cross-section of a process.
I am not afraid of learning; whichever tool makes the work visible, I use that one. What I am after is to take art out of being an isolated object and turn it into a space of confrontation.
Modelling, texturing and lighting in Blender; most of the character and scene work comes out of LABS projects. The models below can be rotated and zoomed in the browser; the viewer loads only when asked.

I drew as a child too; I started by drawing caricatures. I have no formal art training; at university I took art history and art concepts courses and learned drawing with my own means. Working through sketch, study and variation comes from my traditional animation background: I break the work into parts and move forward in stages.
